When: August 11, from 1 PM – 5 PM
Where: The Louis Room (2nd floor) of Norris University Center at Northwestern University (1999 Campus Drive Evanston, IL 60208) View Google Map
What: A fun volunteering event where we can come together as a community and assemble school supply kits for 1,800 Chicago Public Schools students! And, of course, there will be live music and free food!
Why come build backpacks?
Apart from the food and fun, you’ll be helping out a great cause. Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the 3rd largest public school system in America; however, a staggering proportion of CPS students—86%–come from low-income homes. Additionally, 45% of CPS students will not graduate from high school. Although this seems like an insurmountable problem, Supplies for Dreams believes that equipping students with basic school supplies is the first step to a solution. These tools allow students to realize their own potential, and to achieve academic success.
Supplies for Dreams is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides Chicago Public Schools students with critical resources and extra-curricular opportunities ranging from basic school supplies to field trips and one-on-one mentoring. http://www.suppliesfordreams.org/
